Thank you all for your posts and messages of support. I am really struggling; I didn't think it would be this awful. I knew it would be bad, but not THIS bad.



This is Diamond in 2009. I love the look on her face. But when I see this picture, I realize that it's been a long time since I've seen that look - her dementia and illness had really robbed her of her personality and her Diamond-ness.

Even though this picture breaks my heart because I miss her so very much, it makes me realize I did the right thing because she just wasn't herself any more. On her last day, she had three seizures in the morning, each one followed by a nap, then an awful awful time of panicked pacing. And since she was blind, she just kept running into things and it was terrible.

zinnea suggested using the fabric from her bed for a craft project, and I love that idea. Her bed had a chenille pillow in it, and I took it out and washed it and have it with me. I am a dork and I don't even care.

Thank you everyone for being my friend. Thank you for knowing that Diamond existed.

Today is Diamond's 19th birthday. Here is a poem Babette wrote about her last year:

She is as pretty as the sun.
She shines like a gem.
She stands out in a crowd.
She walks a lot.
She is a dog.
She is my friend.

In other news, Baboo has a moustache. wtf?
